Frequently Asked Questions
What does network compatibility mean?
Network compatibility means your device supports the radio frequency bands used by an operator in a specific country. If your phone lacks the LTE or 5G bands deployed by the operator, it won't connect to those networks, even if it works on another operator using different bands.
Why doesn't my phone work abroad?
Different countries and operators use different frequency bands. A phone sold in the US may support bands n71 and n77 for 5G, while European operators use n78. Without matching bands, your phone can't connect. Always check band compatibility before traveling or importing a device.
What's the difference between 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G bands?
Each generation uses different frequency ranges. 2G GSM uses bands like 900/1800 MHz. 3G UMTS uses bands 1-8 (around 850-2100 MHz). 4G LTE uses bands 1-71 (600 MHz to 3.8 GHz). 5G NR uses sub-6 GHz bands (n1-n79) and mmWave bands (n257-n261). Each generation has more bands, more bandwidth and higher data rates.
Is 4G band support enough or do I need 5G?
4G LTE is sufficient for voice calls (VoLTE) and data in most countries. 5G adds higher speeds and lower latency but is not essential for basic connectivity. If your device doesn't support 5G bands, it will still work on 4G/3G where available.
How do I check my phone's supported bands?
Check the manufacturer's specifications page for your exact model variant (bands vary by region). You can also use the HiCellTek Android app to read UE Capability Information (3GPP TS 36.331 / TS 38.331) directly from the modem.
What if I have 100% LTE match but 0% 5G match?
Your phone will work fine on 4G LTE for data and VoLTE calls. You simply won't have access to 5G speeds. This is common for devices sold in regions with different 5G band allocations.
