Frequently asked questions
Where are NR bands defined?
3GPP TS 38.101-1 Table 5.2-1 for FR1 (sub 7 GHz). TS 38.101-2 Table 5.2-1 for FR2 (mmWave 24 to 71 GHz). TS 38.101-5 for NTN satellite bands.
What is the most deployed 5G band in Europe?
n78 (3300 to 3800 MHz TDD, C band) is the most widely deployed capacity band in Europe, MEA and parts of Asia.
How do FR1 and FR2 differ?
FR1 covers 410 MHz to 7125 MHz with channel bandwidths 5 to 100 MHz. FR2 covers 24.25 to 71 GHz with bandwidths 50 to 2000 MHz and TDD only.
What is SDL and SUL?
Supplementary Downlink and Supplementary Uplink bands that add capacity to a primary band. Not used standalone.
Which operators use n77 vs n78?
n77 is the superset (3300 to 4200 MHz) while n78 is the subset (3300 to 3800 MHz). Operators holding spectrum above 3800 MHz use n77.
What about n40 and n41?
n40 is 2300 MHz TDD (Asia). n41 is 2500 MHz TDD used globally including by Sprint/T-Mobile in the USA and several Asian operators.
