Orange France frequency bands

Orange operates a diverse frequency portfolio covering low bands (indoor penetration), mid bands (coverage/throughput balance) and high bands (capacity in dense areas).

Technology Band Frequency Primary use
4G LTE B1 2100 MHz Urban coverage, capacity
4G LTE B3 1800 MHz Primary band, extended coverage
4G LTE B7 2600 MHz High capacity, dense areas
4G LTE B20 800 MHz Rural and indoor coverage
4G LTE B28 700 MHz Extended coverage, IoT
5G NR n78 3500 MHz Primary 5G, high throughput

Orange also holds 2G (900/1800 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) spectrum, both being progressively phased out.

How to check your phone's compatibility

1
Find your IMEI

Dial *#06# on your phone. The first 8 digits form the TAC (Type Allocation Code) that identifies your model.

2
Look up supported bands

Enter your IMEI or TAC in our TAC Lookup tool to get the list of frequency bands supported by your device.

3
Compare with Orange bands

Your device should support at minimum B3 + B20 for proper 4G coverage. For 5G, band n78 is required.

Orange network specifics

VoLTE & VoWiFi

Orange has deployed VoLTE in France enabling HD calls over 4G. VoWiFi (WiFi calling) is also available, useful in areas with limited mobile coverage.

International presence

Orange operates in 26 countries across Africa and the Middle East, with over 150 million customers on the African continent. Deployed bands vary by country (B3, B7, B8, B20).

eSIM & multi-SIM

Orange has supported eSIM since 2019, allowing line activation without a physical SIM card. The multi-SIM service lets you use the same number across multiple devices.

Roaming zones

Thanks to its presence in 26 African countries, Orange offers advantageous roaming agreements for travellers between France and Africa, with dedicated data passes.

Frequently asked questions. Orange

What 4G bands does Orange use in France?
Orange uses five LTE bands in France: B1 (2100 MHz), B3 (1800 MHz), B7 (2600 MHz), B20 (800 MHz) and B28 (700 MHz). B20 provides indoor and rural coverage, while B3 and B7 deliver capacity in dense urban areas.
Is my phone compatible with Orange 5G?
To use Orange 5G, your device must support band n78 (3500 MHz). Dial *#06# to get your IMEI, then use our TAC Lookup tool to check which bands your phone model supports.
Does Orange offer VoLTE?
Yes, Orange has deployed VoLTE (Voice over LTE) across its French network. This technology enables HD-quality calls without falling back to 2G/3G, with call setup times reduced by half.
Will a phone bought abroad work on Orange France?
It will work if the device supports at minimum bands B3 and B20 (LTE). North American models often lack B20 (800 MHz), which significantly degrades indoor and rural coverage.
How can I check Orange coverage at my address?
Orange provides an interactive coverage map at orange.fr/couverture. For more in-depth real-world signal analysis (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR), tools like HiCellTek RF Monitor measure actual field quality band by band.
Need to analyze the network?

HiCellTek measures signal quality band by band (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR) directly from an Android smartphone.
