VoLTE QoE Measurement Voice MOS & Video Quality
Measure voice and video quality of experience directly on Android. Objective MOS scoring with ViSQOL, video quality analysis with ITU-T P.1204.3, codec analysis, RTP monitoring, all correlated with RF KPIs in real time. No additional hardware needed.
QoE metrics measured in real time
HiCellTek captures and computes all key quality of experience indicators directly on the smartphone.
Objective voice quality score computed by the ViSQOL algorithm (Google Research). Measures perceived speech quality on live VoLTE calls without reference signals or human panels. Target: > 4.0 for HD Voice.
Video quality assessment following ITU-T P.1204.3 recommendation. Analyzes bitstream parameters, resolution, codec type, buffering events and frame drops to produce an objective video quality score.
Real-time codec identification and mode tracking. Detects AMR-WB, EVS, AMR-NB codec switches and bandwidth changes during calls. Identifies codec-related quality degradations and mode downgrades.
RTP stream monitoring with jitter buffer analysis, packet loss rate, inter-arrival time statistics and sequence number gap detection. Identifies transport-layer issues affecting voice and video quality.
How it works
Three steps from setup to actionable QoE insights.
Setup
Install HiCellTek on a rooted Qualcomm Snapdragon smartphone. The app activates the DIAG interface and starts capturing VoLTE signaling and media streams automatically.
Measure
Make or receive VoLTE calls. HiCellTek intercepts RTP streams, analyzes codec parameters, and computes MOS scores in real time, while simultaneously capturing all RF KPIs.
Analyze
Review correlated QoE + RF data on-device or export to desktop companion. Identify whether quality issues originate from radio, transport or IMS layers. Generate reports in QMDL, Excel, PCAP or HLOG.
VoLTE diagnostic capabilities
Call Setup & Signaling Analysis
Full IMS/SIP signaling decoded in real time: SIP INVITE, 183 Session Progress, 200 OK, bearer setup (Dedicated EPS Bearer). Track call setup time, identify SIP error codes, and diagnose call drops with precise NAS/RRC correlation.
Radio-QoE Correlation
Every MOS sample is timestamped and correlated with SINR, RSRP, BLER, and handover events. Instantly determine whether a voice quality drop is caused by poor radio conditions, a handover failure, or transport-layer congestion.
Codec Mode Tracking
Monitor AMR-WB mode switching (6.60 to 23.85 kbps) and EVS bandwidth adaptation in real time. Detect involuntary codec downgrades caused by radio conditions or network policy. Track Super Wideband (SWB) and Fullband (FB) availability.
SRVCC & Handover Monitoring
Track Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) events when VoLTE falls back to 2G/3G. Monitor inter-RAT handovers during calls, measure interruption time, and correlate with MOS impact to quantify subscriber experience degradation.
Technical guides: VoLTE QoE measurement
FAQ. VoLTE QoE Measurement
How does HiCellTek measure VoLTE voice MOS without additional hardware?
HiCellTek intercepts VoLTE RTP streams directly through the Qualcomm DIAG interface on a rooted Android smartphone. The ViSQOL algorithm (developed by Google Research) analyzes the audio codec output to compute an objective MOS score on a 1-5 scale, no external probes, no test calls to dedicated servers required.
What is the difference between ViSQOL MOS and POLQA MOS?
ViSQOL (Virtual Speech Quality Objective Listener) is a machine-learning based perceptual model from Google Research, while POLQA (ITU-T P.863) is the traditional ITU standard. Both produce MOS scores on a 1-5 scale. ViSQOL offers the advantage of running directly on-device without requiring a reference signal, making it suitable for field measurement on live subscriber calls.
Can HiCellTek measure video streaming quality?
Yes. HiCellTek implements ITU-T P.1204.3 (Recommendation for video quality assessment) to compute video MOS scores. The algorithm analyzes bitstream parameters, resolution, codec type and buffering events to produce an objective video quality score correlated with RF KPIs in real time.
How are QoE metrics correlated with radio KPIs?
HiCellTek captures QoE metrics (voice MOS, video MOS, RTP jitter, packet loss) and RF KPIs (SINR, RSRP, BLER, MCS) simultaneously from the same Qualcomm DIAG interface. All measurements share a synchronized timestamp, enabling direct correlation to determine whether a QoE degradation is caused by radio conditions, transport, or IMS core issues.
